Pregnancy for dad’s

April 25th, 2008 · 2 Comments

First post since the big annoucement of us having a baby on the way, hmmmmm….just when was that???  Talk about entering a time capsule and having time stopped.  Forget about trying to use a thought experiment to understand the Special Theory of Relativity and how time travel works, just have a baby and the time it feels like it takes during the pregnancy proves you can stop time, and I wasn’t even the one who was pregnant!  This past year or so has felt like the longest time in my life, no question.   Throughout the pregnancy, it literally felt like my wife was pregnant FOREVER, I mean FOREVER.   I can’t explain it, but for expecting parents, or least from my perspective, expecting dad’s, waiting for your new baby to be born feels like you’re living through Ground Hog Day.  Maybe it’s an evil twist of nature in which since you are about to create LIFE, create the most precious thing you’ll ever create, you must pay for it by having to endore this endless waiting game.   What’s makes it even more apparent, is that I not only realized it during the pregnancy, but since our baby was born, events that took place in our lives seem like ages ago.   A friend of mine said he was going to the beach for their anniversary, I was said, ‘oh, what’s it been, like 5 years’, he’s said what the hell you talking about, we’ve been married for only 2 years.   So for all you expecting dads out there, just be patient, keep your head on straight, maintain a fake smile to all the advice you’re going to get and just give a polite nod, and above all else, limit the amount of time spend searching for information on having a baby, there’s just too much out there that is only going to confuse you.  Get a couple of books, talk to your wife’s docs, and enjoy the time, the result will be the most rewarding thing you’ll ever experience.

Our beutiful baby, Aida Grace.

It was wonderful to see Aida for the first time. I can’t wait to see her this summer and how she will have grown.

I do enjoy this time, though, when the kids are 6 and 4 and so something to anticipate. I was told last night that dinner was good but they would rather have ice cream and Mom has to make the ice cream cones because Dad is not special like Mom is and then later they are going to sleep in my bed and watch TV so Dad has to sleep on the couch with the dogs. lol, lol…

If you think it felt like I was pregnant FOREVER, how do you think I felt????? No, it wasn’t too bad, but she was a stubborn little thing and did not want to arrive on time. Hope that doesn’t mean she is going to take after Daddy and be late all the time….. : )
